Understanding the patient journey of Blythe Vorner-Harrison 16mth old liver transplant.
Chaplain Dr.J.Neshea Harrison, Ed.D, born in San Diego, CA but raised in Baton Rouge Louisiana. I love Jesus with ALL my soul because without HIM there would be no me, HE has been my foundation. I have been married to my high school love Edward for 30 years, this year. Of this union we have 3 children, 2 sons ages 26 & 21 and Blythe (11) the old soul of our life, the miracle. Chaplain Dr. Edward is a Postmaster at the USPS, and holds a Doctorate in Education.
Blythe is a liver transplant recipient at the age of 16 months old. She received her liver in three days nothing but a miracle. She was admitted on March 21st 2015, to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA. She was listed on the transplant list on Sunday, March 22nd. Blythe received a donor on Monday, March 23rd and on March 24th, 2015 Dr. Hemmings and his colleagues performed her liver transplant surgery at Rady’s Children's Hospital. Blythe received a donor who was on life support. Blythe’s etiology for her diagnosis is unknown. Blythe spent 20 days in the hospital after her transplant. She woke up with strength, drive, determination, tenacity, and personality that was beyond her years. She came home on 15 medications, and THANK GOD at the age of 11 she is only on 4 medications and doing well. Blythe is the Youth Ambassador for the Liver Coalition. She is a Girl Scout, plays Volleyball, Softball, Archery, TaewanDO, and loves Basketball. She also participates in the youth groups at church.
As a part of SPLIT/ PFEP it allows me an opportunity to help those who are either entering into this journey or currently a part of this journey. This forum gives parents an opportunity to voice change where it matters most. Those who have experienced the obstacles are commonly the ones who are likely to make effective changes since they have lived the situations.
